Understanding the importance of BIM in Spanish construction
In an increasingly connected and digitized world, technology plays a key role in the transformation of various sectors. Construction is no exception, thanks to the introduction of Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology, which is enabling the development of smart buildings and the creation of smart grids and cities. This development has yet to take place in Spain, where it barely represents 1% when in other countries it is close to 60%, as is the case in countries such as Holland, England and Denmark. The Industrialized Housing Report 2020 created by EADAS HOME, exposes the importance of a change from the traditional model to a more sustainable model.
The information stored in the BIM model ranges from building geometry to construction details, mechanical and electrical systems, and energy performance data. BIM can be said to be the digital twin of construction (Xavier Conesa, CEO of Kapture.io). Simulating and analyzing the behavior of a building before its construction allows identifying potential problems and making adjustments to maximize energy efficiency and sustainability, as well as controlling the manufacturing process to minimize errors and ensure that the final product is delivered with the highest quality standards required.

Industrialized construction brings numerous benefits, it seeks to improve the efficiency, quality and speed of construction projects. But let’s focus on one of them, quality: industrialized construction allows greater control over quality standards, since the components are produced in controlled conditions and under strict quality standards where the monitoring of these processes through the inclusion of a QMS brings benefits in the production and assembly chain, ensuring that the construction process meets delivery commitments.

The road to digitization, both traveled and pending
Although there is little use of industrialized construction, Kapture.io has cases of other companies that are already beginning to digitize, as is the case of the company NORMA DOORS and Fluidra, which are digitizing their industrial processes that will possibly end up evoking in digital twins.
Another clear example is the case of Collab, a collaboration between SIMON and FINSA, created with the aim of developing industrialized 2D solutions. In one of the episodes of Kapture Academy we had the opportunity to deepen in this collaboration, to know the potential of industrialized manufacturing and at the same time to expose the challenges faced by Spain where it has great challenges such as the lack of second transformation industry and coordination between industry and training.
