Adding value to quality control with Kapture.io

From measuring without clarity to deciding with purpose

At a recent event held jointly with Nissan we were sharing experiences in the digitization of quality and the importance of connectivity between suppliers and customers, between Tier 1 and OEMs.

From shared data to useful decisions in Industry 4.0

When we started the Kapture.io adventure, we may not have been clear about how we were going to do it, but we were clear about our goal: to add value to quality control by eliminating unnecessary tasks and simplifying those with little added value, so that we could dedicate our clients’ valuable resources to what really matters: making informed decisions at the right time and reducing the cost required to do so.

Provider-OEM connectivity: The data that comes, goes.

For an OEM, having near real-time data analysis is critical to eliminate non-quality costs, the dreaded quality walls that add no real value and only increase costs. Through a SaaS platform such as Kapture.io, the data generated by the checking fixtures can be consulted directly, and in near real-time, by Tier 1 quality engineers via any mobile device, and all the information is available in customized dashboards based on the needs of each customer/OEM.

Analytical functionalities, control charts, are important, but they are not the end, but a means to what is really relevant, which is the sharing of information and the intelligent use of data.

This week we are participating in the Advanced Factories trade fair where we will present additional technological innovations of our platform; automation without control makes no sense, and control only makes sense if we are able to take advantage of all the possibilities offered by real-time data analysis. This is where we are directing our efforts so that all partners in the production chain perceive the advantages and added value of intelligent quality control in the Industry 4.0 environment.

Day-to-day effects

  • Less operational friction: Digital forms and records replace paper and spreadsheets.
  • Shorter reaction times: Aggregate alerts and dashboards allow action to be taken before a detour becomes “expensive”.
  • Same data, same criteria: Supplier and OEM consult the same indicator, reducing “opinionated” and interpretations.
  • Agile follow-up of actions: Corrective/preventive actions are traced and visible.

Results that make an impact

  • Lower non-quality costs: Less rework and fewer retaining walls.
  • Better visibility: What happens inline, lab or end-of-line is seen in one place.
  • Informed decisions: Prioritize by real impact, not intuition.

Looking ahead

Automation without control does not add value. Control only comes when data flows and is transformed into decisions. This is the path to which we are directing our innovations: reliable, shared and actionable data throughout the chain.
