Problem-solving is the conclusion of a broader process which its prior steps are the identification of the problem and its modeling.
For the sake of efficiency and optimization, several methodologies have been defined to solve the incidents and trace the resolution processes.

In productive environments and, especially in quality management, some of these standard problem-solving methods are used, such as the Cause-Effect Diagram or the Five Why’s methodology.
8D: 8 Disciplines:
The new Problem-Solving module from Kapture.io offers a lean tool for optimization by digitizing problem-solving processes. This module, in its first version, includes the 8D or 8 Disciplines problem-solving methodology.
As explained in Quality-One, The Eight Disciplines of Problem Solving (8D) is a problem solving methodology designed to find the root cause of a problem, devise a short-term fix and implement a long-term solution to prevent recurring problems. This structured process emphasizes that problems need to be solved by focusing on facts (objectivity) instead of opinions (subjectivity).
The different disciplines of 8D are:

(1) Building a team
(2) Describe the problem
(3) Implementing a provisional corrective solution
(4) Identifying the root cause
(5) Determining the final corrective actions
(6) Implementing a permanent solution
(7) Preventing the problem from recurring
(8) Celebrating success
The result of the digital transformation of problem-solving methodologies is exponential, optimizing the process by automating incident warnings and task assignment, monitoring progress, and disseminating best practices among departments or production centers.

The 8 Disciplines is the first of the different standards that will soon be incorporated into the platform. Soon, other methodologies will be incorporated, such as those previously mentioned: Ishikawa or 5-why’s.
The present and future of intelligent quality or quality 4.0 involves the digitization of control processes, the integration of all data, the application of artificial intelligence in quality management systems and traceability to achieve “zero-defect” manufacturing. This Problem-Solving module complements the platform with the optimization of problem management and the reduction of non-quality costs.
